Lehigh completes sweep of archrival Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh swept the archrival Lafayette Leopards on Saturday morning at Metzgar Fields, as the men won easily, 17-46, and the women squeaked by with a 25-32 triumph. The men’s victory marked the seventh straight in the storied rivalry, and fifth straight in which the Brown and White scored under 20 points. For the Mountain Hawk women, this pulls the all-time series even at 10, as the Lehigh ladies have now won five of the past seven meets. For the second time in three years, Andrea Luebbe won the women’s race, crossing in a time of 21:54.7, while for the men, Brendan Glover finished first, with a time of 26:37.1.

On the men’s side behind Glover was Sean Swift and then Rob Hampson. Dave Merola, Steve Rosinski, Leo Smith, Ben Lampi and Jonathan Wetzel rounded out spots five through ten for the men. Luke Clay (12), Rich Little (13), Daniel DeWitt (14) and Martin Michael (15) all recorded top 15 finishes as well for the Lehigh men.

On the women’s side, things were much tighter, as Sarah Seiler came in second behind Luebbe, but the next three spots were all occupied by Lafayette. Caroyn House finished sixth and Shannon Alejandro came in seventh in her first ever Lehigh – Lafayette dual. Jen Filiberto (9), Katie McClernand (10), Tracie Fails (11), Kirsten Wert (12), Alison Sanchez (14), and Liz Robinson (15), all posted finished within the top 15 as well.

Lehigh returns to action in two weeks when the Mountain Hawks host the 32nd edition of the prestigious Paul Shot Run on the Goodman Campus. The first race is scheduled to go off at 10:00 AM.
