In game one the Mountain Hawks methodically built a 5-0 lead. In the second inning Julie Sterrett hit a fly ball to left field that was dropped by Erin Hanna. Sterrett came all the way around to score on the error and Lehigh led 1-0. In the next frame Sterrett drove in two more runs with a single to make it 3-0 and the Mountain Hawks would tack on runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles from Katherine Wegert and Stephanie Palmieri. Emily Ling went the distance to improve to 15-5 on the season. Ling gave up four hits and three walks, striking out nine, while allowing only a two-run home run by Erin Gomez in the bottom of the seventh.
For the second day in a row, the Brown and White played catch-up in the nightcap. Taryn Hanley gave Lehigh an early lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Kate Marvel in the first, but the Raiders would score a total of four runs in the second and third innings, spearheaded by a two-run blast from Nichole Rawson. Down 4-1, the Mountain Hawks scored two in the top of the fifth as Mendy Martin delivered an RBI double, then Marvel scored pinch runner Ali Linsk with a single.
Lehigh completed the comeback in the sixth inning as pinch hitter Lauren Haney smacked a two-run double to score Martin and Jessica Young, then Marvel tripled to bring in pinch runner Megan Conrad. Heather Hamasaki pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Kate Arico to nail down her sixth victory.
The Mountain Hawks also took advantage of Colgate’s fielding mistakes. The Raiders committed a total of seven errors in Sunday’s twinbill. Lehigh is now 41-18 all time versus Colgate and 15-3 against the Raiders over the last four seasons.
Lehigh returns to the diamond on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks will entertain Rider in a non-league doubleheader. First pitch of game one set for 3:00 from Kaufman Field.
