Kissimmee, FL – Lehigh split a pair of games on Monday at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The Mountain Hawks opened up the day with a 6-2 victory over Penn, Lehigh’s second win in as many days over the Quakers and the Mountain Hawks’ fifth straight overall. The Mountain Hawks then dropped the nightcap, mustering only five hits in a 2-1 loss to Toledo. With the split the Mountain Hawks now stand at 5-3 on the season.

In the day’s opener against Penn, Lehigh spotted the Quakers a 2-0 lead early on. The Mountain Hawks got one run back in the fourth when Julie Sterrett singled home Mary Wieder. Two innings later Lehigh would take the lead for good. A Mendy Martin fielder’s choice scored Kelly Kliewer to tie the game, and then Kate Arico drove in two more with a RBI single. Arico went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI’s for the Brown and White, while Sterrett picked up three hits and drove in two runs. Stefanie Forlenza struck out five in five and a third innings to get the win, while Heather Hamasaki wrapped things up to pick up her first save.

Despite 10 strikeouts from senior Emily Ling the Mountain Hawks were unable to get past Toledo in game two. The Rockets got to Ling for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, while the Brown and White could only muster an RBI single from freshman Kate Marvel, who had two of Lehigh’s five hits. Ling went the distance allowing only two runs and five hits to go with her 10 strikeouts, but she takes the loss and falls to 2-2 on the year.

Lehigh is off on Tuesday, but returns to action with a pair of games Wednesday. The Mountain Hawks will face Tennessee State at 2:20 then will face Creighton at 4:10.
