Lehigh built an early lead against the Stags in game one, then let pitcher Heather Hamasaki take care of business. The Mountain Hawks got two runs in the first and two more in the third, keyed by an RBI double from senior second baseman Jess Young. Then the Hamasaki, the sophomore hurler went to work. Hamasaki tossed a complete game four-hitter, striking out seven to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The game against Wagner was tight throughout. As the teams went scoreless into the eighth inning, the international tie break was implemented; each half inning began with a runner on second base. In the bottom of the eighth, Stephanie Palmieri bunted the runner to third, then freshman Taryn Hanley delivered the RBI single to win it, her second GW extra-inning RBI of the season. Emily Ling got the win for the Mountain Hawks, she improves to 3-2 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action on Friday as they will wrap up play at the Rebel Spring Games. Lehigh will open up with the Mastodons of IPFW at 8:50 am, and then the Mountain Hawks will face the Ramblers of Loyola-Chicago beginning at 12:30.
