Lehigh wraps up Rebel Games with two more wins

3/11/2005 12:00:00 AM | Softball

Kissimmee, FL – Lehigh wrapped up play at the Rebel Spring Games with a pair of victories on Friday. The Mountain Hawks first utilized a six run second inning to beat IPFW 8-3 then won a pitcher’s duel 1-0 over Loyola-Chicago. The Brown and White wrap up play winners of four straight and finish with a 7-1 record at the Rebel Spring Games. The Mountain Hawks are now 9-3 on the season.

In the first game the Mountain Hawks jumped on the Mastodons early, putting a run across in the bottom of the first as Mary Wieder doubled home Kate Marvel to give Lehigh the early 1-0 lead. Lehigh exploded in the second inning, plating six runs, the key blow being a bases loaded double from Taryn Hanley that scored two runs. Stefanie Forlenza took care of the rest, allowing three runs on just two hits to pick up her second win. Wieder finished with three runs batted in on the afternoon for the Mountain Hawks.

The second game was a close-well pitched affair. Lehigh scored the only run of the game in the second inning as Lauren Haney singled home Julie Sterrett. That was all Kate Arico would need. Arico went the distance to record the three-hit shutout, striking out seven. Haney finished 2-for-3 with a double and the game’s only RBI.

The Mountain Hawks will be back in action next weekend as they will take part in the Bash at the Beach, hosted by Delaware State. Action gets underway Friday afternoon from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
