Lehigh remains perfect at home with 2-1 win over Colgate

Head Coach Dean Koski talked about ending the season undefeated at home. “I think it’s a tribute to this place (the Ulrich Sports Complex), to our fans and to Ronald Ulrich. The fact that we are able to have such tremendous fan support at each of our games is great for the guys to play in front of, and really provides a tremendous boost.”
Colgate got on the board first in the 30th minute when Eric Anton scored his fifth goal of the season off of an assist from Charlie Lambropoulos, on a play in which Anton fielded a free kick and then headed the ball right over Lehigh keeper Charlie Sales’ head. Lehigh was out shot seven to six in the opening half and went into halftime trailing by that 1-0 count.
Just three minutes into the second stanza, a foul was called on Colgate inside of the box, setting up O’Reilly with the penalty kick, which he deposited in the back of the net, to tie the match at one. O’Reilly then scored the game-winner at the 62:16 mark, when he booted a rebound into the net, and put Lehigh in front for good. The Brown and White would play keep away for the remainder of the night, and also continued to apply pressure on the offensive end, eventually coming away with the league win, which helps the Mountain Hawks stay in a tie for first place.
The Mountain Hawks out shot their counterparts 20-10 for the night, and had two corner kicks to Colgate’s one. Sales finished with eight saves in goal for Lehigh, while Doug Litvack stopped 11 Lehigh shots. Jim Stevens led Lehigh with seven shots on the evening, while for Colgate Anton unleashed five of his own.
Koski commented on the win following the match. “It was a frustrating half for us, being down 1-0. Maybe we weren’t as prepared or ready as we should have been, but we fought back; John O’Reilly scoring two goals was huge for us, and we ended up with the result we wanted. I think it’s scary to think how good we could be if we played an entire 90 minutes, because we’ve been down in the first half in a number of our games, such as Army.”
