Mountain Hawks post a pair of top-20 finishes at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Lehigh headed west on Saturday morning in its final tune up before the Patriot League Championships, as the Mountain Hawks competed in the Penn State Invitational. Both genders continued their solid seasons, as the Lehigh men placed 11th out of 37 schools, and the Mountain Hawk women came in 18th place, out of 34 teams. The top male finisher for the Brown and White was junior Brendan Glover, who came in 40th place with a time of 26:15, while junior captain Jen Schappert led the women with a 30th place finish, crossing in a time of 21:54. This was the second straight season of finishing in the top-50 at this prestigious race for the Maryland native.

For the men, senior Rob Hampson followed Glover, finishing in a time of 26:22, which placed him in 48th place. Juniors Victor Vientos (51), Sean Swift (91), Steve Rosinski (125), Martin Michael (164) and freshman Dan Dewitt (173) were the other Lehigh men that competed on the day. The overall champion was Providence’s Martin Fagan. The junior finished in a time of 24:56, while the team champion was Eastern Michigan, who recorded a team score of 100. The Mountain Hawk men defeated several quality teams en route to their finish, including Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Buffalo, Bucknell, Syracuse and Kentucky.

On the women’s side, senior Andrea Luebbe followed Schappert in 75th place with a time of 22:41, and Sarah Seiler posted a top-100 finish, placing 97th. Junior Carolyn House (110), and a trio of freshmen, Caitlin Kennedy (166), Katie McClernand (173) and Jen Filiberto (180) rounded out the Mountain Hawk scoring. Senior Shannon Rowbury of Duke University won the overall crown, crossing the finish line in a time of 20:34, as she helped lead the Blue Devils to the team crown. Lehigh’s women also finished in front of several strong programs, including Duquesne, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, and St. Joe’s
