Easton, PA – The Mountain Hawks continued their drive towards a Patriot League title on Sunday, finishing off a four game sweep over Lafayette with two wins in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at the Leopards’ home field.  Taking two wins by finals of 4-2 and 8-0, the Mountain Hawks showed their dominance in the series by outscoring Lafayette 28-2 over the four games of the series, winning three of the games by shutout.

In the first game on Sunday, outfielder Shana Treon and catcher Mary Wieder continued their hot hitting from Saturday’s games.  Treon doubled, tripled, and stole a base on her way to her second straight three-hit game. Wieder also had a pair of hits, going 2-4 and scoring a run.  Erin Hengemuhle chipped in with three hits in the game as well.

The Mountain Hawks split up the pitching duties, as freshman Heather Hamasaki started the game and pitched four scoreless innings, before giving way to Emily Ling in the fifth. Ling finished off the game for her tenth win (10-2), giving up two runs on two hits in three innings.

In the nightcap, Treon again was the catalyst, tripled twice more on her way to her third three-hit game on the weekend, driving in three runs.  The Mountain Hawks got one the board with one in the third, then pushed across four in the fourth and three more in the fifth before the action was called.

Liz Gripp went 3-3 on the afternoon, and Mendy Martin was 1-4 with three RBIs.

Kate Arico (8-2) pitched four scoreless for the win, and freshman Stefanie Forlenza pitched a hitless fifth as the Mountain Hawks held the Leopards to just two hits.

Shana Treon finished the four game series with ten hits in only thirteen at bats, an incredible .769 batting average. The Mountain Hawks moved to 25-9-2 on the year (6-2 in the Patriot League), while Lafayette fell to 6-18, 1-7.

In the overall series rivalry on the year, the Mountain Hawks now lead the Leopards 16-9 with just seven events left to play. Lehigh has now defeated Lafayette 19 straight times in softball, with their last loss coming all the way back in 1999.

The Mountain Hawks return to the field on Wednesday, April 7, as they take on the Princeton Tigers at Pate’s Park in Allentown.  Service Electric TV-2 will provide televised coverage of the first game starting at 3:00, while an audio broadcast of both games can be heard live on Lehigh’s website at www.lehighsports.com.
