Offense erupts in DH sweep at Holy Cross

Worcester, MA – The Lehigh softball juggernaut rolls on, as the team won their 13th and 14th straight Patriot League games on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader at Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks offense was outstanding, as the team scored a season-high 12 runs in the first game, winning 12-2 in five innings before picking a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
Heather Hamasaki pitched 5 scoreless innings in the first game, giving up just one hit and striking out six in moving her record above .500 on the season (8-7). Stefanie Forlenza gave up two runs in the foruth for Holy Cross’s only offense in the game.
Shana Treon went 3-3 in the game with 2 RBIs to lead the offensive surge. Mary Wieder chipped in with a 2-4 performance as well with 3 ribbies, and Kelly Kliewer was 2-2 with a couple runs batted in also.
In the second game, Kate Arico continued her incredible run over the weekend with a complete game victory. Arico (12-1) won three of the four games over the series, and gave up just one run on seven hits in the victory on Sunday.
Jessica Young was the hitting star for the team, belting her first home run of the season and driving in three runs while going 2-3.
Lehigh now sits atop the Patriot League standings at 14-2 (34-12-2 overall), and have won 14 straight since dropping a pair of games to Army to start league play.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Rider for an out of league doubleheader.
