Cambridge, MA – Lehigh continued to struggle on the road as Lehigh fell to Harvard on Saturday afternoon 67-56 at Lavietes Pavillion in Massachusetts.  Lehigh did not take a lead in the game until 19 minutes remained in the game in a contest that featured six lead changes and the score was tied five times.  With the loss Lehigh falls to 4-5 on the season, while the Crimson improve to 3-6.

The first half started off slow as both teams struggled to find their offensive games, until Harvard was able to get it going on its end of the floor.  The Crimson pushed their lead all the way up to ten with just under four minutes remaining in the half, but following a timeout called by head coach Billy Taylor, the Mountain Hawks responded with a run of their own.  Sophomore Jason Mgebroff hit a turnaround jumper just before the first half buzzer to pull the Brown and White to within three at halftime, 30-27.

Lehigh was led in scoring by senior captain Nick Monserez who connected on three shots from behind the arc en route to nine points in the first twenty minutes, while junior Mitch Gilfillan sank two three pointers for six points.  Junior Mike Fischman came off of the bench for the Mountain Hawks and grabbed a team high five rebounds and also blocked one shot.  Lehigh shot 40 percent in the first half, including 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Harvard received a big boost from Kevin Rogus who scored 15 points on four of six shooting, including three of five from three-point range to lead the Crimson in scoring in the first half.  Graham Beatty ripped down eight boards in the half to lead Harvard, while as a team the Crimson shot 38 percent from the field and 30 percent from three point land.

In the second half Lehigh came out strong but was unable to sustain its early hot shooting, as the Mountain Hawks finished the game at a 35 percent clip.  The Mountain Hawks were outscored 37-29 in the second stanza and shot just 29 percent for the half.  Harvard finished up at just 38 percent, but out rebounded the Mountain Hawks 44-31.

Lehigh was led in scoring by Gilfillan, Joe Knight and Monserez with 11 points each on the afternoon, while Mgebroff added ten.  Fischman wound up with eight rebounds and Gilfillan handed out a team high five assists.  Harvard received 17 points and 13 rebounds from Matt Stehle, while Rogus did not score in the second half, and ended up with those 15 points.

Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Cincinnati to take on Atlantic-10 foe and 2004 “Elite Eight” participant Xavier.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 from the Cintas Center and the game will be televised live in the Lehigh Valley on WFMZ Channel 69, as well as FSN Pittsburgh and nationwide on DirecTV channel 628.  The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 AM and 1320 AM and on Lehigh’s website at lehighsports.com beginning at 7:00.
