Lehigh struggles playing catch-up

Bethlehem, PA – In a game where the tempo was comparable to molasses in January, Lehigh fell to Holy Cross 72-66 on Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks shot 45% from the field in the loss, while the Crusaders sank 48% of their shots. Lehigh (4-13, 1-3 Patriot) trailed 32-18 at the half but cut the lead to one at 54-53 with just over four minutes to go before the Crusaders went on an 18-13 run to seal the deal.
"We came out very flat in the first half and fell behind," said head coach Sal Mentesana. "I though we came out as a different team in the second half but we had dug ourselves into such a hole, it was so hard to get out."
Matt Logie led the Mountain Hawks with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 4-7 from long range. Alex Jensen chipped in 16 points and 5 assists while Matt Crawford added 9 points in the loss. As a team, the Mountain Hawks shot 9-16 from beyond the arc, but committed 14 turnovers.
Tim Szatko led Holy Cross (8-11, 2-2 Patriot) with 10 points, all of which came in the first half. Szatko shot 4-of-12 from the field and pulled down 5 rebounds in the win. Patrick Whearty scored 17 points and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Jave Meade added 13 points and doled out five assists. The Crusaders out-rebounded Lehigh 34-23 on the afternoon.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday evening when it hosts Patriot League newcomer American at 7:30.
