Mary Kate Lynch is in her sixth season at the helm of the Lehigh women’s golf program. Lynch was appointed as the fifth head coach in the history of the Lehigh women’s golf program in the summer of 2017. She served as an assistant coach for the Mountain Hawks in the 2016-17 campaign as part of her second stint at Lehigh.
 
The 2021-22 season saw Lynch lead the Mountain Hawks to top four team finishes in three of eight regular-season events, including a runner-up finish at the fall-opening Bucknell Invitational and at the SHU Spring Invitational over spring break. First-year Madison Pineda burst onto the scene with a terrific season that culminated in Patriot League Rookie of the Year and first team All-Patriot League honors. Pineda’s 76.64 scoring average was the second lowest single season total in program history and she finished in the top 15 in nine tournaments throughout the season.
 
The Mountain Hawks went 3-1 in dual competition during the spring 2021 season and hosted the Patriot League Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club. Freshman Sophie Holland’s 77.75 scoring average was the third-lowest single season total in program history. Holland and sophomores Marina Mendez and Iris Shin were recognized for their academic success by the WGCA.
 
Lehigh’s shortened 2019-20 campaign was highlighted by top-four finishes in three of its four fall tournaments. Junior Angela Ding picked up a Patriot League Golfer of the Week honor, while senior Minuette Laessig, Mendez and Shin were WGCA All-American Scholars.
 
The 2018-19 season saw Lehigh embark on another strong fall campaign, capped by a second consecutive team title at the Lehigh Invitational. The Mountain Hawks finished fourth at the Patriot League Championship, with Reagan Jahn and Angela Ding earning All-Patriot League honors. Jahn concluded her record-setting career by being named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s golf and Lehigh Athletics’ graduating Scholar-Athlete of the Year. On the course, Jahn set single season and career program records for scoring average and carded the low single round (68) and 54-hole total (219) at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic.
 
Lynch’s first season as Lehigh’s head coach was highlighted a by a fall campaign in which the Mountain Hawks finished no worse than fourth in four tournaments. The Mountain Hawks opened the season with a second place finish at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational, with Reagan Jahn earning medalist honors after winning a playoff. Lehigh capped its fall season by winning its own invitational tournament in October at Saucon Valley Country Club. Senior Megan Moylan led the Mountain Hawks at the Patriot League Championship with her first career All-Patriot League honor, while Jahn was named Academic All-Patriot League for the second straight year.
 
The former Mary Kate Williams, Lynch initially came to Lehigh as an assistant coach in the fall of 2011 and took over the program’s day-to-day operations as interim head coach for the 2012 spring campaign, following the departure of head coach Rob Shutte.
 
Before returning to Lehigh in 2016, Lynch spent four seasons as the head coach at her alma mater, Saint Francis University, where she garnered Northeast Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2013-14. While leading the Red Flash, Lynch mentored Taylar Jaramillo to three first team All-NEC accolades.
 
Lynch was the first full-time coach in Saint Francis history and also served as the first assistant professional at the Immergrün Golf Club.
 
While leading Lehigh as interim coach during the spring of 2012, Lynch guided Lehigh in four tournaments, leading the Mountain Hawks to a win in the 10-team Sunshine Spring Classic and a fourth-place finish in the 14-team Spider Intercollegiate.
 
In addition to her experience in college golf, Lynch has been active with the The First Tee, an organization that strives to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Lynch served as Program Director and Lead Coach for The First Tee of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey for 18 months spanning 2011 and 2012. Since January of 2017, Lynch has served as Program Director for The First Tee of Raritan Valley in New Jersey.
 
Lynch was active as an assistant golf professional for five years prior to her arrival at Lehigh, beginning at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic, N.J., before moving on to the Bedens Brook Club in Skillman, N.J., where she was from 2009-2011.
 
A New Jersey native, Lynch was the first female member of the Immaculata High School golf team, before going on to play collegiately at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. She served as team captain as a junior and senior and played an integral role as the Red Flash qualified for the NCAA Regionals in three of her four seasons. She earned All-Northeast Conference honors in 2004 as the Red Flash won one of their three conference titles with Lynch on the team.
 
Lynch earned her BS in Sociology from Saint Francis in 2006 and added a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Saint Francis in 2016. In addition to her role as head women’s golf coach, Lynch also serves an events manager for the Lehigh Athletics Partnership.
 
Lynch resides in Bethlehem with her husband Ryan, an assistant athletic trainer in Lehigh’s Sports Medicine department and their sons Owen and Brooks.
