Pattie Ruth Taylor enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Lehigh softball program. Taylor serves as the Mountain Hawks’ pitching coach and plays a prominent role in student-athlete recruitment.
In her first season, Taylor oversaw a pitching staff that helped Lehigh reclaim its perch at the top of the Patriot League. The tandem of senior Gabriella Nori and sophomore Katelyn Young were outstanding in the Patriot League Tournament as Lehigh defeated Boston University twice in the championship round to win its 15th tournament title and first since 2017. Nori allowed one run in 13 innings versus Boston University in the tournament and was named Most Valuable Player, while Young yielded just four in 21 innings and joined Nori on the All-Tournament Team.
Taylor came to Lehigh in the summer of 2021 following two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach at UConn. In 2021, she coached Payton Kinney to three Big East weekly awards as well as a spot on the Big East All-Tournament Team. In her first season at UConn, Taylor worked with a staff that posted a 2.01 ERA and threw six shutouts, going 16-5 in the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
A native of Russellville, Tenn., Taylor pitched for Middle Tennessee State from 2015-2018. She was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete, two-time C-USA Honor Roll member, and a member the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at MTSU.
Prior to her stint at UConn, Taylor served as a pitching instructor at SIX1FIVE where she provided private pitching instruction to girls in a wide age range.
Taylor earned her bachelors degree in marketing from Middle Tennessee State and added a masters in leisure and sport management.
