Former Monmouth standout Rachel Konowal begins her second season as Lehigh assistant coach in 2019 after wrapping up a strong career for the Hawks, capped off by earning second team All-MAAC recognition in 2017. Konowal helped bring the Monmouth program to new heights, posting a 32-7 record over her last two seasons, including the second MAAC Tournament Title and NCAA Tournament appearance of her career.

In Konowal’s first season at Lehigh, she helped lead the Mountain Hawks to continued signs of progress. One of the biggest areas was its corner play as the Mountain Hawks turned 91 corner opportunities into 17 goals off corners. The 18.7 success percentage almost doubled the previous year's total. The Mountain Hawks defeated Ball State for the first time since 1984, picked up a Patriot League win over Colgate and defeated Towson in the season finale. Lehigh also dropped a 3-2 overtime final at Lafayette, scoring multiple goals against the Leopards for the first time since since Oct. 6, 2007 (13 games ago). Individually, sophomore Lenke Havas was named first team All-League and was named NFHCA All-Mideast Region, becoming just the fourth All-Region honoree in program history. Freshman Olivia Perrone was named second team All-Patriot League, marking the second straight season a Lehigh rookie garnered All-League recognition. Academically, both junior Amanda Boyer and Havas were named to the Academic All-Patriot League team.

Captain as a senior at Monmouth, Konowal posted a career-high 24 points in 2017 behind seven goals and 10 assists, finishing her career with 40 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 79 games (68 starts).  She made an immediate impact on the field, playing in all 21 games as a freshman, including the NCAA Tournament Play-In Game vs. Princeton. As a sophomore, Konowal was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week following a three-point effort vs. Rider. As a junior, she assisted on two of Monmouth’s three goals in the NCAA Tournament Play-In Game vs. UMass. As a senior, Konowal led Monmouth to a 15-4 record and 5-1 mark in the MAAC to earn the conference’s regular season championship.

Along with her playing experience, Konowal has served as USA Futures assistant coach, helping U14 athletes improve on their field hockey knowledge, skills and experience. She also organized attacking and defensive drills that emphasized specific skills to improve player performance.

In addition, Konowal has served as assistant coach for Surf and Sand Field Hockey, coaching girls ages six to 18. She helped create and promote a competitive year-round environment for field hockey athletes looking to participate in major USFHA/NFHCA recruiting events, college showcases and outdoor tournaments.

Konowal has worked several Monmouth University Field Hockey Camps, where she counseled and coached girls ages six to 17. She also served as an umpire at the 2016 Disney Showcase.

Strong off the field as well, Konowal was named to the NFHCA Division I Academic Team all four years of her career, was a member of the MAAC Academic Team from 2015-17 and was named to the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
