Four Mountain Hawks Land on Academic All-Patriot League Teams

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four student-athletes from the Lehigh track and field teams have been selected to the Academic All-Patriot League teams, announced Wednesday. The four Mountain Hawk honorees are all seniors: Corinn Brewer, Laura Reigle, Dan Malatesta and Joseph Nowakowski.

All four Lehigh student-athletes also garnered Academic All-Patriot League honors during the indoor season.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Reigle garnered her sixth consecutive Academic All-Patriot League citation spanning the indoor and outdoor seasons of her last three years. A design major with a 3.85 GPA, Reigle is a three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has achieved Dean's List distinction with a GPA better than 3.6 in six of her first semester, including two 4.0 semesters. Reigle won her fifth career Patriot League championship in the pole vault last weekend and became the first Patriot League pole vaulter to win three outdoor titles. Â

Brewer is an architecture major with a 4/0 GPA, earning a perfect GPA mark in each of her first five semesters on campus. On the track, Brewer earned a bronze medal at last weekend's Patriot League Championships in the heptathlon, scoring 4863 points. She won the 800m portion of the heptathlon and set PRs in the 200m and the shot put. Brewer won a Patriot League title in the indoor pentathlon during the winter.

Nowakowski earned Academic All-Patriot League honors for the third time in his career and the first time in the outdoor season. He is a philosophy major with a 3.92 GPA. Nowakowski made Lehigh's Dean's List in six of his first seven semesters with four 4.0 semesters to his credit. At the Patriot League Championships, Nowakowski finished sixth in the shot put and 15th in the hammer throw. He won the shot put in four different outdoor meets this spring.

Malatesta is a biology major with a 3.91 GPA. He is a seven-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, covering cross country and track and field. Malatesta has eclipsed the 3.6 GPA mark in each of his first seven semesters on campus. He ran the 1500m at the Patriot League Championships finishing in 12th place. Malatesta owns a win in the 1500m in the Lafayette Dual earlier this month.
