Sward Named Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior shortstop Peyton Sward was named Patriot League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Sward had a big week at the plate for the Mountain Hawks in a 4-0 weekend in New York with doubleheader sweeps at Binghamton and Cornell.

Sward batted .643 over four games, going 9-for-14 at the plate with seven runs scored, two extra-base hits and four runs batted in. She also posted an impressive 1.563 OPS and had at least two hits in all four Lehigh victories.

In Saturday's opening game at Binghamton, Sward went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. With the game tied at 5-5, Sward delivered a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning that was the difference in a 7-5 Lehigh victory. On Sunday, Sward wet 4-for-6 over both ends of the doubleheader sweep of Cornell. She scored four runs and had a steal of home in both games.

For the season, Sward is batting .429 with her 24 hits ranking second on the team and her 19 runs scored over 18 games tied for the team lead. Sward also has two doubles, two triples and 14 RBIs, while starting all 18 games at shortstop.

The Mountain Hawks (12-6) will travel to UMBC Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader and then will wrap-up spring break with a trip to the UNCG Tournament Mar. 13-15 in Greensboro, N.C.
