Roth Tied For Second After Opening Round Of Patriot League Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Jake Roth shot two under par 68 to lead the way for the Lehigh men's golf team Friday in the opening round of the Patriot League Championship Friday at the Bucknell Golf Club. Roth is tied for second place, one stroke behind the leader John Heckel Jr. of Army West Point. As a team, the Mountain Hawks shot 13 over par 293.
 
A clean first round saw Roth make three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey. Roth was even through 14 holes before making birdie in two of his final four holes. The 68 marks Roth's second round in the 60s this season and his lowest single round of the spring campaign.
 
First-year Noah Zyung delivered Lehigh's No. 2 score Friday, shooting three over par 73 to sit in a tie for 26th place. Zyung made eight pars on the front nine and three birdies on the back nine.
 
Senior Jahan Bains is tied for 35th place at five over par 75. Bains made one birdie in his opening round.
 
Juniors Aiden LeBlanc and Will Caronchi both shot 77 and are part of a tie for 42nd place. Caronchi was two over par through six holes but could not continue the momentum. LeBlanc was just two over through nine holes with eight pars but played the second nine in five over par.
 
Senior Aiden Oehrle made three birdies in his opening round 82 and sits in 48th place.
 
Defending champion Loyola shot one under par 279 to take the tea lead by two strokes over Army West Point.
 
The Patriot League Championship continues Saturday with the second round. Tee times have been pushed back to 9 a.m. with Lehigh playing with rival Lafayette on day two.
