12/20/2025 11:23:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball wraps up the non-league portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks travel east to take on the Monmouth University Hawks in West Long Branch, N.J. at 1 p.m.
Lehigh (4-8) and Monmouth (5-7) are familiar foes, having played one another in consecutive seasons since 2017 (with the exception of the shortened 2020 COVID season). The Mountain Hawks hold the slight edge in the all-time series 7-6 and won last year's matchup 90-63 at Stabler Arena.
If Lehigh wins, head coach Brett Reed would win his 292nd game, putting him only eight away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins.
A career-high 33 points from junior captain Nasir Whitlock helped pave the way for an 83-74 Mountain Hawk victory over Penn State Hazleton. Sophomore Hank Alvey recorded his second consecutive double-double, logging 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks on an efficient 6-7 from the field and 4-4 from the line. Andrew Urosevic also reached double-figures, scoring 13 points with three triples in 27 minutes off the bench. Lehigh posted shooting splits of 44.3% (27-61) from the field, 28.1% (9-32) from three and 76.9% (20-26) from the free throw line. The Mountain Hawks controlled the boards 46-35 and outscored the Nittany Lions 32-26 in the paint.
Monmouth enters Sunday's matchup with a 5-7 record, having lost each of their last three games. The Hawks hosted Quinnipiac on Wednesday, falling 85-75. Head coach King Rice is in his 15th season at the helm of the program. Jason Rivera-Torres leads the Hawks in scoring at 14.8 points per game while Stefanos Spartalis (12.8 ppg) and Justin Ray (11.3 ppg) also average double-figures.
Following Sunday's game, Lehigh will open Patriot League play at home on Wednesday, December 31 at 12 p.m. against Army West Point.
