BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball is set to tip-off from the Resorts World Las Vegas Classic on Friday and Saturday as part of the team's four-game road trip. Lehigh will face UC Santa Barbara on Friday, November 28 at 4:30 p.m. EST and then either Seattle University or Texas State on Saturday, November 29 at 2 p.m. EST.
Lehigh (2-5) has never played against UC Santa Barbara (4-2), Seattle (4-1), or Texas State (6-2). The Mountain Hawks' last appearance in a multi-team event came in 2013 in the Legends Classic against Texas Southern (W, 67-63) and South Dakota State (L, 74-61).
If Lehigh wins, head coach Brett Reed would win his 290th game, putting him only ten away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins.
Lehigh played its first of four games away from Stabler Arena on Tuesday evening from McCann Arena against the Marist University Red Foxes, falling 78-55 decision to begin the road swing. Junior Nasir Whitlock led Lehigh with 17 points on 6-12 shooting and a team-high eight rebounds. Whitlock has now scored in double-figures in six of Lehigh's seven games this season. Alvey and first-year Caleb Thomas each added eight points, first-year Andrew Urosevic scored seven off the bench while junior Jalen Vazquez added five points and three steals.
UC Santa Barbara enters the Resorts World Las Vegas Classic holding a 4-2 record averaging 82.8 points per game, good for third in the Big West conference. The Gauchos have scored 90+ points twice on the season, holding wins over San Francisco State, San Jose State, Sacramento State and Nobel University. Colin Smith leads the Gauchos with an average of 15.6 points per game while three others (Aidan Mahoney - 12.5, Miro Little - 12.0, CJ Shaw, 11.2) average double-figures.
Seattle enters the tournament off the heels of a 77-69 power conference win over Stanford on November 21. The Redhawks hold a record of 4-1, with their only blemish being a two-point loss to Cal Poly. Brayden Maldonado has starred for Seattle, leading the West Coast Conference in scoring at 20.2 points per game. Will Heimbrodt (16.3 ppg) and Jun Seok Yo (12.4 ppg) also average double-figures for the Redhawks.
Texas State enters the weekend on a five-game winning streak while holding a 6-2 record. In their winning streak, the Bobcats have defeated UTSA, Texas Southern, Abilene Christian, Little Rock, and Texas Lutheran. DJ Hall leads the Bobcats with a scoring mark of 12.0 points per game while Mark Drone averages 10.4 per contest for Texas State.
Following this weekend's games, Lehigh will play one more game on the road prior to returning to Stabler Arena against Binghamton on Tuesday, December 2 at 6 p.m.
