11/1/2025 11:55:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 2025-26 season tips off for Lehigh men's basketball on Monday, as the team travels to Texas to take on the #2 Houston Cougars.
Lehigh and Houston have met twice, with both meetings being won by the Cougars. The two teams first met on December 4, 1993 in a 96-74 win for Houston. The most recent meeting was on November 17, 2013, which was an 80-66 Houston win.
If Lehigh wins, it will be the team's highest ranked win in program history. The Mountain Hawks would win their season opener for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Lehigh's last power conference victory came in 2016 against Mississippi State. With a win, Lehigh would spoil Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson's chance at his 800th career win.
The Mountain Hawks return All-Rookie selection Hank Alvey, starters Joshua Ingram and Edouard Benoit as well as third-leading scorer and captain Nasir Whitlock. Two seasons ago, Lehigh made the Patriot League Championship game and will look to bounce back after falling in the first round in 2024-25. Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed enters his 19th season as the head coach of Lehigh men's basketball.
Houston comes into the game ranked as the number two team in the country. The Cougars went 35-5 and 19-1 in the Big 12 conference a season ago, dancing all the way to the NCAA Tournament National Championship game before falling 65-63 to Florida. Houston returns Emanuel Sharp, its second leading scorer from a year ago, who averaged 12.6 points per game. Starters Milos Uzan and Joseph Tugler also return for the Cougars. Sampson enters his 12th season at the helm of the program in 2025-26.
Following Monday's game, the Mountain Hawks will play their home opener against Valley Forge at Grace Hall on Thursday, November 6 at 7 p.m. Lehigh basketball played its home games at Grace Hall from 1942-1979.
Monday's game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and can be listened to on Fox Sports 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
