Fast Start, Second-Half Takeaways Power No. 8/9 Lehigh Past Yale, 31-13

Junior running back Luke Yoder totaled 157 yards from scrimmage and scored twice as the Mountain Hawks rolled up 399 yards of total offense including 225 on the ground.
The Mountain Hawks are now 6-0 on the season and Lehigh has now won 11 straight regular season games since losing at Yale last October.

Lehigh received the opening kickoff and drove 67 yards in eight plays, capped by a 27-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Hayden Johnson to junior Mason Humphrey to give Lehigh the early lead. After a 3-and-out from the defense, the Mountain Hawks went back to work with an 11-play, 90-yard drive. Johnson hit Yoder on a screen pass for a 24-yard touchdown to extend the Lehigh lead to 14-0 with 2:59 to play in the opening quarter.

Yale (2-1) cut Lehigh's lead in half late in the second quarter when quarterback Dante Reno capped a 15-play, 89-yard drive with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Nico Brown as the Mountain Hawks took a 14-7 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs drove into Lehigh territory on the first drive of the second half, but on 4th-and-5 on the Lehigh 35, junior Davis Rice picked off Reno for the game's first turnover.
It took Lehigh just three plays to extend its lead. A 59-yard completion from Johnson to Humphrey set up a 25-yard touchdown run by Yoder, giving the Mountain Hawks a 21-7 lead.
Yale pulled back within a score as Reno and Brown connected for a 44-yard score on 4th-and-2. The extra point hit the left upright as Lehigh led 21-13 with 6:18 remaining in the third.
A 25-yard field goal by senior Nick Garrido put Lehigh up 24-13 at the end of three quarters. Yale was driving early in the fourth quarter but junior Aidan Singleton picked off Reno in the end zone on 3rd-and-12 from the Lehigh 13 to end the threat.

The Mountain Hawks came up with their third takeaway of the half on Yale's next possession. The Bulldogs drove 12 plays to the Lehigh 30, but Reno fumbled a handoff with senior Tyler Ochojski capitalizing with the fumble recovery.
Lehigh put the game away with a nine-play, 68-yard drive. Johnson scored on a nine-yard keeper to give the Mountain Hawks a 31-13 lead.

Johnson finished 8-of-15 passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns, and added 45 rushing yards. Yoder rushed for 108 and caught three passes for 49 yards. Sophomore Jaden Green carried 11 times for 67 yards, while Humphrey had two receptions for 86 yards.
Defensively, senior Brycen Edwards led Lehigh with nine tackles. He added half a tackle for loss. Junior William Parton had seven tackles and a tackle for loss. Singleton had three tackles and a pass breakup along with his interception, while junior DJ Brown was credited with three pass breakups.
Reno was 25-for-38 passing for 247 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Yale. Brown caught seven passes for 85 yards and two scores. Yale did rush for 103 yards, with Josh Pitsenberger leading the way with 63 yards on 18 carries.
The Mountain Hawks conclude their three-game Ivy League swing with a game at Columbia next Saturday. Game time is set for noon from Robert Kraft Field. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with audio coverage on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFOXSports.com.
EXTRA POINTS… Lehigh welcomed back four championship teams Saturday: the 1975 Lambert Cup champions and the 1995, 2000 and 2010 Patriot League champions… the Mountain Hawks are 6-0 for the first time since the 2012 team started 9-0 and have won their first four home games for the first time since 2013… Lehigh reclaimed the Yank Townsend Trophy, awarded in honor of Charles Frederick Townsend, the only student from Connecticut in Lehigh's class of 1895… Yale had held the trophy since 2017 with Lehigh snapping the Bulldogs' three-game winning streak in the series… both teams finished with 22 first downs and neither team recorded any sacks… Yoder's receiving touchdown was the first of his career… Humphrey's 59-yard catch was the longest of his career… two of Singleton's three career interceptions have now come against the Bulldogs.
