
Lehigh Competes At Penn Select In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh men's track and field competed in their second event of the indoor season on Saturday, heading south to the University of Pennsylvania for the Penn Select. The Mountain Hawks competed against the likes of Saint Joseph's, La Salle, Howard, Rutgers, Rider, Monmouth, Temple and the host Penn.

JUMPS
Senior Skyler Mott and first-year Nick Bressi were the two Mountain Hawks competing in the high jump on Saturday. Mott took second place in the event with a jump of 2.05m, a season best for the senior. Bressi finished 11th with a 1.85m jump.
Junior Tyson Utesch and senior Jack Murphy were Lehigh's pole vaulters on Saturday. Utesch took sixth place with a 4.25m jump while Murphy finished behind him in seventh at 4.10m.
Junior Daniel Givens led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the long jump, placing ninth at 6.35m. Senior Jordan Layos placed 11th with a 6.15m jump followed by first-year Jacob Chernin in 13th at 6.04m and first-year Nicholas Wolf in 14th at 5.95m.
Mott was also Lehigh's top placer in the triple jump, placing fourth with a 13.67m jump to set a new PR. Layos finished behind him in fifth at 13.48m while Givens took seventh at 13.28m.

MID-DISTANCE
Four Mountain Hawks ran in the 1 mile run, led by first-year Ian Zalewski in 17th at 4:19.20. First-year Charlie Butler took 24th at 4:23.33 followed by PRs from junior Max Leffler (26th, 4:24.65) and junior Connor Malinger (38th, 4:34.92).
The two student-athletes competing in the 3000m were sophomore Ryan Baker and junior Henry Burd. Baker set a new PR with a time of 8:14.60 to take third. Burd placed ninth with a time of 9:11.22.

In the 800m, the Mountain Hawks were led by senior Ethan Hood in 19th place with a time of 1:58.13. First-year Peter Priestner took 21st at 1:59.88 while sophomore Aidan LaTourette finished closely behind in 23rd at 1:59.96.
SPRINTS/HURDLES
In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Nathan Oliphant finished 5th in his heat to take 11th place overall in the prelims with a time of 8.41. However, the Mountain Hawks did not qualify for the finals.
Sophomore Eddie Moore competed in the 60m sprint for Lehigh, placing seventh in the prelims with a time of 7.03. In the finals, Moore once again finished in 7.03 to take sixth place overall.
Leading the way for Lehigh in the 200m was first-year Quinten Slaughter, who took sixth place with a time of 22.46. Senior Patrez Thomas was right behind him in seventh at 22.51 while Oliphant finished 19th at 25.03.
Thomas was Lehigh's top finisher in the 400m, placing 10th at 50.66. Slaughter finished 11th with 51.16 followed by sophomore Logan Haverkamp in 12th at 51.43. First-year Austin Iburg took 14th at 51.87 while first-year Griffin Niemann finished in 23rd at 56.90.

Six Mountain Hawks competed in the weight throw, led by senior Liam Lovering in seventh place with a 16.21m throw. Senior Ethan McHugh placed 10th at 13.67m followed closely by first-year Joshua Porter in 11th with a 13.65m throw. Placing 12th was junior Sharan Shankar at 13.15m followed by first-year Samuel Maloof in 14th at 12.98m and first-year Adam Klinge in 16th at 10.40m.
Lovering was once again Lehigh's top placer in the shot put, finishing fourth with a 15.09m throw. Lehigh's other finishers were Porter in eighth at 12.34m and first-year Aaron Humes in 10th at 11.68m.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the University of Pennsylvania next weekend on Saturday, January 18 for the Quaker Invitational.
