Mountain Hawks Drop Patriot League Opener to Navy 3-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - With an early lead of 2-0 in the first half, the Navy Midshipmen earned a 3-0 win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Friday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

The Mids kicked opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Lauren Toms put away a cross from Ande Swan, giving Navy a 1-0 advantage.

In the 17th minute, Navy was awarded a penalty kick on a yellow card issued to first-year Kat Pluck. Chiara Cosenza netted the penalty, extending Navy's lead to 2-0.

Navy's Alexa Riddle had a one-on-one opportunity with junior Maggie Ousoujoglou in the 60th minute, sending the ball into the bottom right corner putting Navy up 3-0.

Following the Mids third goal, Lehigh gained momentum outshooting Navy 13-5. In the second half, the Mountain Hawks also out-cornered Navy 2-0.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Ousoujoglou recorded one save while Navy's Natasha Stamrood tallied seven saves. Sophomore Aminah Baruwa led Lehigh offensively with three shots.

Lehigh (1-4-4, 0-1 PL) is back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as it hosts Lafayette in The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.
