Mountain Hawks Place 15th At Harry Groves Spiked Shoe 6K

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Lehigh women's cross country traveled west to the campus of Penn State University for the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe, the site of this year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. The Mountain Hawks finished 15th as a team against a talented pool of competing schools in the 6K race.
The Mountain Hawks squared off against 16 other schools, including three other Patriot League schools (Bucknell, Navy, Loyola). Lehigh's 15th place finish put them ahead of Buffalo and Loyola in the final standings.
Lehigh's top finisher was senior Maddison Hayes, who made her season debut after not competing at last month's Lehigh Invite. She completed the 6K in 22:05.6, which was the 87th fastest time out of 209 athletes who crossed the finish line. Rounding out the top three for the Mountain Hawks was first-year Kaitlyn Highduch (94th, 22:10.9) in her first-ever collegiate race and sophomore Hope Trimmer (115th, 22:34.0).
"Both Maddie and Kaitlyn opened their seasons today," said head coach Debbie Utesch. "Maddie was really leading a partial squad of first-years and sophomore runners. I think Kaitlyn had a very strong first race and looked like she was gaining confidence as the race progressed."
The Mountain Hawks will next seek their 19th consecutive victory over their rivals in the dual meet against Lafayette College on Saturday, September 21.
"We are looking forward to putting our full squad together against Lafayette next weekend," said Utesch.
