Early Lead Proves To Be Too Much As Rutgers Tops Lehigh 3-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - An early 2-0 lead in the first half lifted Big Ten foe Rutgers over Lehigh 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The first goal of the contest came in the fifth minute when Gabriela Gil gave the Scarlet Knights an early 1-0 lead. Rutgers struck again in the 36th minute, as Allie Post gave the home team a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the 52nd minute, the teams were sent into the locker rooms and play was paused due to a lightning delay. The game resumed approximately an hour and a half later.

Rutgers added to its lead in the 67th minute as Riley Tiernan gave the Scarlet Knights a 3-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Ousoujoglou recorded six saves, while Rutgers' Olivia Bodmer earned three saves.

The Scarlet Knights outshot the Mountain Hawks 20-4 and had six corners to Lehigh's one.

Rutgers (2-1-1) was a NCAA Tournament qualifier a season ago.

Lehigh (1-2) heads to Philadelphia for an evening contest versus Drexel at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
