BOSTON – In its final game of the regular season, the Lehigh softball team dropped another tight battle with No. 22 Boston University, falling 2-0 to the Terriers Saturday at BU Softball Field. BU's Brooke Pryor drove in both runs for the Terriers, who swept the series, winning the three games by a total of four runs.
Junior Rory Dudley had two hits to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks, who finish the regular season at 30-18 overall and 14-4 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh put two runners on in the first, but BU starter Lizzy Avery struck out first-year Holly Lovett to end the threat.
Pryor brought home the first run of the game when she singled home Brooke Deppiesse in the fourth inning. In the inning Boston University benefitted from an error on what could have been a 6-3 double play.
Graduate student Emily Cimino led off the top of the sixth with a single up the middle and was sacrificed into scoring position. Dudley picked up her second hit of the day, but BU's Lauren Nett threw Cimino out at the plate from right field to keep Lehigh off the board.
BU added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth when Allison Boaz tripled to right center and then scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Pryor.
Avery set Lehigh down in order in the seventh, aided by a diving catch in right by Nett to rob junior Julia Mrochko. She allowed three hits and walked three with six strikeouts in the shutout victory.
