Mountain Hawks Win 14 Out Of 19 Events To Sweep Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - The Lehigh women's track and field team defeated Lafayette 111-89 on Saturday in Easton. Across women's track and field and cross country, the Mountain Hawks swept Lafayette 3-0 in the 2023-24 meetings of The Rivalry.
SPRINTS/HURDLES
Senior Ashley Struck dominated the 100m and 200m, winning both with 12.05 and 24.24, respectively. In the 100m, Gianna Mangili landed in fourth with 12.57 and Stephanie Webb followed behind in fifth with 12.96.
Following Struck's win in the 200m, Webb placed fifth with 26.08 and Kasey White claimed sixth with a mark of 26.37. Junior Svea Wicklegren was Lehigh's top finisher in the 400m, placing second with 58.98, while senior Simone Davey earned a point with a fourth place finish (59.91).
Lehigh claimed the top two spots in 400m hurdles, as Grace Kennedy claimed first place with 1:05.26 and first-year Mila Jovanovic took second with 1:06.90. Sophomore Amber Barrios took fourth in both the 110m hurdles (18.12) and the 400m hurdles (1:08.05), with Jovanovic following behind in fifth at 18.47 in the 110m hurdles.
The 4x400m relay unit consisting of Wickelgren, Kennedy, Davey and Jordyn Hock picked up five points and first place, clocking in at 3:56.48.
THROWS
Senior Karina Roze won the discus with a throw of 36.57, and first-year Avery Dowkus earned a point with a fourth place finish of 33.36m. Dowkus was Lehigh's top finisher in the hammer throw, taking third with 45.69m while Jennifer Whipple followed behind in fourth with 42.90m.
In the shot put, Dowkus took first with a mark of 11.35m and Whipple claimed third (10.28m). Roze took second in the javelin throw (32.91m) and Dowkus picked up one point with a fourth place finish of 31.47m.
JUMPS
Lehigh swept the jumps, starting off with Laura Reigle's victory in the pole vault with 3.86m. Junior Rory Stein landed in fourth and picked up a team point after clearing 2.81m. Junior Izabel Fronc won the high jump with 1.57m as Gaea DePass and Kerry Perna tied for third with 1.52m.
The Mountain Hawks took the top three spots in the women's triple jump, led by junior Casey Talamini-Kelemen with 11.84m. Nina Cicalone followed behind in second (11.56m) and Lauren Roy took third (10.80m). In the long jump, Lehigh again claimed the top three with Lillian Mauger winning with a jump of 5.40m, followed by Talamini-Kelemen (5.39m) and Roy (5.21m).
MID-DISTANCE/DISTANCE
The Mountain Hawks also swept the mid-distance/distance events. In the 800m, sophomore Abby Klebe took first place with 2:15.61. Lucy Afanasewicz won the 1500m, clocking in at 4:40.40, and Devon Sutton earned second and a PR of 4:47.32. Lehigh took the top three spots in the 3000m steeple, led by Lindsay MacLellan with 10:51.13. In the 5000m, Savannah Beavers took first (17:42.70) and Abigail Tenreiro earned second place with 18:11.70.
Lehigh is back in action with the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell April 12-14.
