Mountain Hawks Return To Action On The Road Against LIU
12/20/2024 10:31:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a two-week hiatus, Lehigh men's basketball returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the LIU Sharks. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m. from the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Lehigh (3-6) and LIU (4-10) have faced off against one another four times, with the all-time record locked at 2-2. However, the teams have not faced off since LIU Brooklyn merged with LIU Post. In their last meeting, the Mountain Hawks earned a four-point victory over the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds back in 2014.
If Lehigh wins, they would earn their fourth win of the season and third in their last four outings. In addition, a win at LIU would be the team's first road victory of the season.
In their last time out, the Mountain Hawks were bested 86-62 by the Dayton Flyers. The Flyers shot an outstanding 57.1% from the field and 63.6% from three while the Mountain Hawks shot 38.7% and 34.8%. Lehigh rebounded the ball well, tying Dayton 33-33 on the boards. Dayton was led offensively by Nate Santos, who scored 24 points on 8-11 shooting and a perfect 6-6 from three. Keith Higgins Jr. posted 24 points on 9-18 shooting and 4-8 from three while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Joshua Ingram and Nasir Whitlock each added nine points while Ben Knostman dished out six assists.
LIU enters Saturday's game having lost seven of their last eight games, including an 80-72 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. Malachi Davis is the only Shark averaging double figures, as the junior has posted 17.5 points per game, good for second in the NEC. The team is coached by former NBA star Rod Strickland, who is in his third season at the helm of the program. The Sharks finished with a 7-22 record last season, falling to Merrimack in the NEC quarterfinals.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will return to Stabler Arena for their final non-league game of the season against Neumann University on December 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on NEC Front Row. Fans can also listen on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
