UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Lehigh men's cross country wrapped up the 2024 fall campaign on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn State University. The Mountain Hawks placed 17th in today's 10K race.
Senior Kevin Harvey led the pack for the Mountain Hawks in his final cross country race in the brown and white. The second team All-Patriot League selection finished 41st out of 192 runners, completing his 10K race in 30:53.6. This was the sixth race in a row that Harvey has paced the Mountain Hawks.
"Kevin's going to be missed for the way he approaches the sport," said head coach Todd Etters. "He's a tough and gritty competitor, and we need a little more of that out of our teams, so he's going to be a guy we'll miss for his leadership and certainly his performances."
Lehigh's second-highest finishing student-athlete was senior Aidan Lynch, who clocked in at 31:52.2 to take 85th. Rounding out the top three for Lehigh was junior Dan Malatesta, who finished 112th in 32:15.6.
Other finishers for the Mountain Hawks included sophomore Thomas Smigo (125th, 32:33.9), sophomore Ryan Baker (126th, 32:34.1), first-year Ben Connell (33:25.9) and junior Connor Malinger (159th, 33:26.0).
Lehigh finished in 17th place out of 27 competing teams at Friday's regional, scoring 479 points. The Mountain Hawks will now begin preparing for the spring track and field season.
"We'll have to use the track season to definitely build some confidence and get ourselves in a different spot," said Etters. "We've got to take ownership of our performances and the status of where we're at. We can't be satisfied… if you want something and you want something bad enough, you have to go out and earn it yourself, and I think that's what we'll look to work on."
