BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling team had 17 wrestlers in action Sunday at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at nearby Freedom High School. The Mountain Hawks had three wrestlers win Hammer Awards for winning "A" brackets at the round robin event. Three other Lehigh wrestlers went undefeated to win at lower flight brackets.

Lehigh's three hammer awards were won by sophomore Luke Stanich (141) and seniors Max Brignola (165) and Michael Beard (197). Stanich and Brignola were both competing unattached at the event.

After opening with a technical fall over Will Baysingar of Illinois, Stanich won back-to-back decisions over All-Americans. Stanich posted a 4-1 decision over Kai Orine of NC State and then defeated CJ Composto of Penn 8-2 in the finals, on the strength of two takedowns.

Brignola's day at 165 began with a technical fall over Illinois' Caden Ernd, followed by a decision over Nicco Ruiz from Arizona State with a takedown in the final seconds. In the finals, Brignola defeated Derek Fields of NC State 7-3 behind takedowns in the second and third periods.

Beard opened with back-to-back technical fall victories before meeting Illinois' Zac Braunagel in a top-10 battle. Beard led the takedown battle 2-1 and fought off a Braunagel shot late to hold on for a 7-6 decision.

Junior Sheldon Seymour was the fourth Mountain Hawk to make an A-bracket final. Seymour posted an impressive 12-0 win over Jakob Camacho of NC State in his second bout of the day, but fell 10-4 to Vince Robinson, also of NC State in the final round.

Deferred first-years Griffin Gonzalez (157E) and Zeke Dubler (165F) and junior Jack Wilt (184D) all went undefeated Sunday to win their respective brackets.

At 149, senior Drew Munch (D) and junior Zac Martin (G) won their first two bouts to reach finals but settled for second place finishes.

Fourteen of Lehigh's 17 entrants won at least one bout Sunday. Junior heavyweight Nathan Taylor had to default with an injury in his first bout of the day and forfeited out of the tournament.
