BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 18 Lehigh opened the dual meet season with a 37-7 win over EIWA newcomer Morgan State Friday Night inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Despite missing some familiar faces in the middle and upperweights, Lehigh's lightweights set the tone with three straight bonus wins to open the dual.

The Mountain Hawks won eight bouts overall, with six bonus victories. Lehigh had two falls, three technical falls and a major decision.

"Everybody wants to wrestle and that's the really positive thing," Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. "Everybody went out and wrestled hard. That's exactly what we want from our team."

Junior Sheldon Seymour started things off with a third period pin over Treshaun Tecson at 125. Seymour built a 13-1 lead in the third before securing his first fall of the season in 6:24.

Making his season debut, sophomore Ryan Crookham scored early and often in a 16-1 technical fall over Kevin Lopez at 133. Crookham needed just 2:37 to secure the winning margin.

Senior Malyke Hines followed Crookham's technical fall with one of his own as he defeated Myrin Nixon 20-5 in 6:37. Hines led 7-2 after one and put the match away with a trio of third period takedowns.

"That was really important," Santoro said. "We always talk about bonus points and to start the dual with three bonus-point wins – that's a good way to start any dual."

At 149, senior Drew Munch made it four straight wins for Lehigh with an 8-6 decision over Yannis Charles. Munch scored takedowns in the first and third periods and held off a Charles scoring attempt in the final seconds.

Making his Lehigh dual meet debut, deferred first-year Griffin Gonzalez gave Lehigh a 24-0 lead halfway through with a 19-3 technical fall in 6:39.

Coming out of the break, deferred first-year Zeke Dubler also made his dual meet debut and delivered a second period fall over Cooper Lockhart at 165. Dubler led 6-3 before securing the fall at 3:36 to give Lehigh a 30-0 advantage.

Morgan State (0-3) picked up the first of its two victories at 174 where Darrien Roberts held off first-year Richie Grungo 4-2. Grungo was making his dual debut up a weight class and had two outstanding shots that were thwarted by Roberts whizzers. A first period takedown for Roberts delivered the winning margin.

Sophomore Caden Rogers made his season debut at 184 with a 1-0 decision over Kingsley Menifee with the lone point coming from a second period escape.

At 197 junior JT Davis received an opportunity and posted a 14-2 major decision over Cameron Johnson.

With junior Nathan Taylor out due to an injury suffered at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, first-year heavyweight Calvin Lachman made his dual debut, but fell 17-5 to Xavier Doolin.

"It's really good to be back in Grace Hall," Santoro said. "There's no better venue in the country and our guys were excited about it. Everyone was excited to wrestle at home since we won't be back in Grace Hall until January."

The Mountain Hawks are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 24 when they travel to Pitt for a 2 p.m. match.

The 2024-25 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
