
Lehigh To Host Army West Point For Three Games, Now Beginning Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball returns to Patriot League play as the Mountain Hawks welcome Army West Point to Leadership Park for a three-game series. Due to the threat of inclement weather on Sunday, the series will now begin with a single game Friday at 3:30 p.m., with a doubleheader Saturday slated for a noon start. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Mountain Hawks will look to get back on the winning track after dropping a 12-1, six-inning game to visiting Villanova on Wednesday. Lehigh fell behind 3-0 after half an inning and never recovered as the Mountain Hawks fell to 31-10 overall.

Lehigh is 9-0 through three weekends of Patriot League play and the Mountain Hawks have already locked up a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks and Boston University are both 9-0 in league action.

Graduate student Carley Barjaktarovich and first-year Chloe Hess led a Lehigh sweep of Patriot League weekly awards, with Barjaktarovich winning Player of the Week and Hess capturing both Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors.

Barjaktarovich went 8-for-15 at the plate at Colgate and singled and scored Lehigh's lone run against Villanova on Wednesday. She has her average up to .383 on the season, trailing only senior Josie Charles, at .420. Senior Emily Cimino drove in Lehigh's only run Wednesday with a single for her team-leading 35th RBI of the season.

Hess threw a scoreless inning against Villanova to lower her ERA to 1.81 to go along with a 12-4 record. She allowed just two earned runs over 17.1 innings at Colgate last weekend.

Army West Point is 17-26 overall and at 7-2 in the league is just two games behind Lehigh and Boston U. The Black Knights were off from league play last weekend and split a doubleheader at Stony Brook in their last action on April 15. In league play, Army has swept Holy Cross and won 2-of-3 against both Lafayette and Bucknell

Kayla Edwards leads Army with 43 hits and a .344 batting average. Taylor Brown is the top run producer with five home runs and 26 RBIs.

Four pitchers have thrown 54 or more innings for the Black Knights. Breanna Izzo leads the way with 85.1 innings and leads Army in wins (6), strikeouts (50) and ERA (4.85).

Lehigh leads the series with Army West Point 97-42. The Mountain Hawks won 3-of-4 meetings in 2022, winning two games at West Point during the regular season and then defeating the Black Knights 3-2 in the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament.

The Army West Point series will be followed by a four-game road trip. Lehigh will travel to Saint Joseph's for a single game on Wednesday April 26 before heading to Holy Cross for three games April 29-30.
