Mouzakis Wins the Men’s Hammer as 10 Mountain Hawks Earn Top-Three Finishes at Monmouth Spring Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.  — The Lehigh men's track and field squad closed out the weekend with the final day of the Monmouth Spring Opener, hosted by Monmouth from Kessler Stadium.
 
Throws
Junior Achilles Mouzakis won the hammer throw with a distance of 52.81 meters while sophomore Liam Lovering finished 16th with a mark of 44.87 meters. Lovering then earned second place in the discus after reaching a mark of 49.39 meters.
 
First-year Wil Jaques finished in the top 20 with a 19th-place finish in the discus, hitting a mark of 39.63 meters and then was the highest-placing Mountain Hawk in the javelin with a mark of 53.31 followed by sophomore Greg Stagliano, who threw a distance of 52.47 meters for 10th.
 
Jumps
Senior Ian Scott and sophomore Mulenga Malama finished in the top three in the long jump, with Scott finishing second and reaching a PR distance of 6.95 meters, which is ninth all-time, while Malama also had a personal best of 6.93 meters for third place and 10th all-time.
 
Scott and Malama also earned second and third in the triple jump. Scott hit a mark of 13.35 meters while Malama turned it a mark of 12.75 meters. First-year Daniel Givens finished fourth in the triple jump at 12.65 meters and sophomore Jalen Blango finished sixth with a mark of 12.23 meters.
 
Sophomore Skyler Mott tied for third-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.95 meters while junior Eli Aaronson cleared a height of 1.90 meters to tie for sixth and a personal best.
 
Sophomore Gideon Coprivnicar and first-year Tyson Utesch both cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault
 
Sprints
Four seniors, John Siani, Jack Bush, Cole Lavalle and Ian Scott all competed in the 100-meter dash with Siani being the first Mountain Hawk to finish and placing 18th with a time of 11.27 for a new personal best.
 
In the 4x100-meter relay, the squad of Siani, seniors Andrew Roman and Amondo Lemmon and junior Dan Stipanov finished fourth in a time of 43.63
 
Stipanov earned a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 and then posted a PR time in the 200-meter dash. Also competing in the 200-meter dash was senior Andrew Roman, who posted a personal best time of 22.58 seconds and was the first Mountain Hawk to finish the event.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomores Patrez Thomas and Jack Murphy finished second and third respectively, with Thomas finishing in second place with a time of 54.41 while Murphy completed the race in 57.72 for third place.
 
Mid-Distance
Nine different Mountain Hawks ran in the 800-meter race and three finished in the top 10. Senior Joseph Cranley earned a second-place finish in a time of 1:56.35 while first-year Daniel Malatesta ran a 1:59.61 which was good enough for fifth and senior Thomas Leitner completed the event in 2:00.15 for an eight-place finish.
 
Nine other members of the Brown and White competed in the 1,500-meter event, which saw first-years Adam Barbato and Henry Burd place in the top 20 for the meet. Barbato finished in 4:06.90 for 15th place and Burd finished 19th after running 4:07.80

The Mountain Hawks will prepare for the Lafayette Dual, which will be hosted by the Leopards at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 1.
