Lehigh Heads to Maryland For Spring-Opening Carpetbagger Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On the heels of a successful fall campaign, the Lehigh men's golf team will open up its spring season this weekend at the Carpetbagger Classic at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Md. The Mountain Hawks will be one of 14 teams competing in the two-day, 36-hole event. A shotgun start is set for 9:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Lehigh's fall season was highlighted by tournament titles at Binghamton's Matthews Auto Intercollegiate and the Alabama A&M Golf Classic. The Mountain Hawks also finished second in their home Lehigh Invitational. Senior Daniel Song was the individual medalist at the Lehigh Invitational and finished second at the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate. First-year Jake Roth capped the fall season by winning the individual title at Alabama A&M.

Song is one of four seniors on the roster along with Sam Barton, David Hurly and Joey Dotta. Lehigh also has junior Edmund Broderick and sophomores Jahan Bains and Aidan Oehrle, while Roth leads a first-year class that also features Will Caronchi and Aiden LeBlanc.

The 14-team field for the Carpetbagger Classic includes Binghamton, Bryant, Canisius, Colgate, Cornell, FDU, Howard, Lehigh, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, Rhode Island, Robert Morris, Wagner and Youngstown State.

Following the Carpetbagger Classic, Lehigh will head west for the UC San Diego Invitational, March 27-28 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.

April features three tournaments: Columbia's Spring Invitational, April 3 in Springfield, Pa.; the Wildcat Invitational, April 10-11 in Glenside, Pa., and Lafayette's Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational April 16-17 at the Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa.

The Patriot League Championship will be hosted by Loyola, April 28-30 at Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Md.
