Lehigh Shines at Final Meet of the Regular Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks proved they are prepped and ready to go for the upcoming Patriot League Championships on Feb. 25-26. The Lehigh men's track and field team wrapped up the regular season at the Bucknell Tune Up on Friday night, finishing the meet with four first-place finishes, three all-time additions and two IC4A qualifiers. 

The Mountain Hawks shined in the field events, capturing three first-place finishes on top of two all-time additions and both IC4A qualifying performances. 

Sophomore Mulenga Malama captured Lehigh's first first-place finish on Friday in Lewisburg. Malama won the long jump with a personal best of 6.73m. Following close behind was fellow sophomore Jalen Blango, who finished second overall with a personal best of 6.52m. 

First-year Carter Bartz picked up his first collegiate win on Friday, winning the pole vault with personal best and IC4A qualifying mark of 4.75m. Bartz is now ranked seventh all-time in Lehigh history. Fellow first-year Tyson Utesch (4.15m) and sophomore Gideon Coprivnicar (4.00m) followed suit, finishing third and fourth, respectively. 

Lehigh's jumpers continued to dominate at Bucknell, wrapping up the one-day meet with two more first-place finishes. Sophomore Skyler Mott earned his second consecutive win in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 1.96m. 

Senior Ian Scott claimed Lehigh's fourth first-place finish of the day in the triple jump. Scott won the event with an IC4A qualifying mark of 14.73m to become fourth all-time in Lehigh history. Mott and first-year Daniel Givens tied for third in the triple jump, both earning new personal bests of 13.31m. 

While the Mountain Hawks dominated in the field events, they continued to put up solid times on the track. 

Senior Drew Roman kicked off Friday's meet with a fifth-place finish in the 60m. Roman finished the race with a time of 7.14. Following the 60m, junior Daniel Stipanov continued to dominate in the 60m hurdles. Stipanov finished second overall with a time of 8.38 to become tenth all-time. Senior Vincent Polignano (8.89) followed close behind, finishing third overall. Senior Jack Bush was the final Lehigh sprinter to claim a new personal best on Friday, finishing fourth in the 400m with a time of 52.78. 

Lehigh's middle distance runners showed signs of improvement with three Mountain Hawks earning personal bests. First-year Thomas Arnold led Lehigh with his sixth-place finish in the mile. Arnold finished the mile with a personal best of 4:25.38. Following close behind were fellow first-years Max Leffler (4:26.58) and Adam Barbato (4:26.75) who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. 

The Mountain Hawks will travel to Annapolis, Md. for the Patriot League Championships, which will be hosted by Navy. Competition will begin Saturday, Feb. 25 and will wrap up Sunday, Feb. 26.
