Schedule Changes Announced as Lehigh Heads to Virginia for HU/NSU Tour Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team is headed back on the road for the season's second weekend as the Mountain Hawks will take part in the HU/NSU Tour Classic in Hampton and Norfolk, Va. Anticipated inclement weather has forced the cancellation of Friday's games and a reshuffling of the weekend schedule. The Mountain Hawks will now play two games Saturday in Hampton and two more Sunday in Norfolk.

Last weekend, Lehigh went 3-0 at Alabama's Leadoff Classic, defeating Georgia Southern twice and beating No. 7/9 Alabama 7-4 for the program's first-ever win over a top 10-ranked opponent. The Mountain Hawks swept the Patriot League weekly awards, with senior Emily Cimino earning Player of the Week honors, junior Katelyn Young winning Pitcher of the Week and first-year Lily Owens garnering Rookie of the Week accolades.

Cimino went 4-for-11 with seven RBIs in the three-games in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She had five RBIs in the win over the Crimson Tide and closed out the weekend with a walk-off two-run double in Lehigh's second win over Georgia Southern.

Senior Carley Barjaktarovich went 5-for-10 at the plate over three games with an RBI and four runs scored, while Owens also registered five hits, while scoring three runs and going a team-best 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.

Young earned the win over Alabama in the circle with a complete-game effort and allowed five earned runs in 13.2 innings of work last weekend. First-year Chloe Hess earned a pair of victories, allowing just one earned run and four hits in 7.1 innings, all of which came against Georgia Southern.

Lehigh's trip to Virginia now begins Saturday in Hampton with games against Quinnipiac (9 a.m.) and UMass Lowell (1 p.m.).

Quinnipiac will open its season on Friday on the heels of a 12-29 season a year ago. The Bobcats have won three of the four meetings with Lehigh, including a 4-2 win in 2018.

UMass Lowell was swept in a four-game series at Coastal Carolina last weekend. The River Hawks went 28-20 last season. Lehigh captured the only previous meeting with UMass Lowell 6-5 in 2015.

On Sunday, Lehigh will close out its second weekend of action in Norfolk, with games against Wagner (10 a.m.) and Georgetown (12:30 p.m.)

Wagner also will open its season in Virginia this weekend. The Seahawks went 19-29 last year. Lehigh has won all nine meetings against Wagner all-time, with the most recent meeting being a 7-0 triumph in 2013.

Georgetown went 0-3 in its season-opening trip to Jacksonville, Fla., with losses to Furman, Jacksonville and North Florida. The Hoyas were 15-28 in 2022. The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series versus Georgetown 2-1 and won the last meeting 3-1 in 2015.

The Mountain Hawks will be off from competition next weekend and will return to action at Campbell's Camel Invitational Mar. 3-5 in Buies Creek, N.C.
