BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After picking up their first win of the 2023-24 campaign, Lehigh men's basketball looks to make it two in a row on Tuesday night against the Monmouth Hawks. After hosting Monmouth last year, Lehigh will now travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey for this season's matchup.
The Hawks are a familiar foe for the Mountain Hawks, as the two teams have faced one another in each of the past two seasons. Monmouth picked up the win in 2021 by a score of 85-75 in New Jersey while Lehigh defeated the Hawks last season at Stabler Arena by a score of 80-76. Overall, Lehigh holds a slight edge over Monmouth in the all-time series 6-5.
Lehigh (1-3) earned their first win of the season last Wednesday, defeating Oneonta at home by a score of 90-65. Three Mountain Hawks recorded career-highs in points in the win (Bube Momah - 10, Cam Gillus - 10, Joshua Ingram - 6). In addition, no Mountain Hawk tallied more than 20 minutes in the game and no player recorded less than seven minutes. Senior Dominic Parolin's 10-point performance also pushed him over 500 career point in the win. The team looks to extend its win streak to two with a win in Tuesday's contest.
Monmouth holds a 1-2 record through the first three games, picking up a win over Big 12 side West Virginia (11/10) while falling to George Mason (11/6) and Princeton (11/18). Monmouth is led by Bucknell transfer Xander Rice who is averaging 22.3 points per game. Rice also leads the Hawks in assists, averaging four per contest. On the glass, the Hawks are led by Jack Collins who is averaging 8.3 boards per game. Last season, Monmouth finished the season with a 7-26 record while going 5-13 in CAA play. The Hawks picked up a 100-64 victory over Hampton in the CAA Tournament First Round before falling to Drexel 64-45 in the Second Round.
