
Lehigh Concludes Season with 2-1 Loss to Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks fell 2-1 to Lafayette in The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute on Friday night. With the loss, Lehigh does not qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.

First-year Aubrey Ide scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Julia Gatelein.

It was a scoreless first half between the teams, with Lafayette leading 5-2 in shots. A minute into the second half, play was halted for a period of time for an injured official on the field.

When play resumed, the Leopards came out with momentum, scoring a straight shot off a penalty corner. India Ralph inserted the ball to stick-stopper Lineke Spaans and Josephine van Wijk put it in to give Lafayette the 1-0 lead.Â

The Leopards maintained momentum through the third period, with Naomi George netting a goal with under five minutes left in the quarter.

With over five minutes left in the game, Ide scored her first collegiate goal to put the Mountain Hawks down 2-1. Lafayette held on to secure the win and eliminate Lehigh from postseason contention.

Junior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni made seven saves and Lafayette goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni picked up one save.

The Mountain Hawks conclude the 2023 season with an overall record of 9-8 overall and 2-4 in Patriot League play.
