Hurly, Oehrle Finish Top 10 At Matthews Auto Invitational

APALACHIN, N.Y. – With the top five teams separated by just four strokes, the Lehigh men's golf team claimed a fourth place finish out of 14 teams at Binghamton's Matthews Auto Invitational, which wrapped up Monday at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. A final round 291 left the Mountain Hawks at 574 (283-291), three strokes behind Villanova, which shot a final round 284 to move into the top spot at 571.
 
Graduate student David Hurly and junior Aidan Oehrle posted top 10 finishes to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks. Hurly was Lehigh's top finisher for the second straight tournament, tying for fifth place at six under par 138 (68-70). He carded six birdies in his final round and shot 33 on the back nine.
 
Oehrle carded his second straight 71 to tie for 10th place at two under par 142. He made four birdies in his final round.
 
Graduate student Sam Barton and sophomore Will Caronchi tied for 30th place with identical scores of 147 (72-75). Senior Edmund Broderick shot 149 (74-75) and tied for 47th place.
 
Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc had a strong tournament competing as an individual, shooting one under par 143 (69-74) and claiming 12th place.
 
Host Binghamton and St. Bonaventure tied for second at 573, with Monmouth (575) rounding out the top five.
 
Devin Smith from Mount St. Mary's was the individual medalist at nine under par 135 (68-67). Smith defeated three players by two strokes apiece.
 
The Mountain Hawks will close out the fall season when they host the Lehigh Invitational on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club Oct. 20-21.
