BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Going into Friday's dual meet, the Lehigh men's cross country team had one goal: keep the winning streak alive. The Mountain Hawks did just that as they defeated Lafayette 17-40 to earn their 23rd consecutive victory over the Leopards.

Lehigh's seniors stepped up in their final cross country dual meet. Seniors Connor Melko and Tyler French led the team with first and second-place finishes The duo finished with the exact same time of 25:37.20.

"It was a good performance today," said Melko. "We didn't know who they were going to run today but we were ready for anything. We had a good pack of guys. Tyler French, me, Aidan and Kevin worked through the race and then at three miles, the top of the hill, Tyler and I decided to keep it going. It's been really nice to run with him. He's had a great season. I've been coming back so excited to be out here especially crossing the line with Tyler and getting the team win."

Sophomores Aidan Lynch and Kevin Harvey followed suit, finishing third and fourth overall. Lynch finished with a time of 25:44.00 while Harvey finished just two seconds later with a time of 24:46.80.

Lafayette had two runners finish fifth and sixth before senior Ethan Davis claimed his spot as seventh. Davis was the final Mountain Hawk to earn points for the team on Friday as he finished fifth for Lehigh with a time of 25:54.50.

Following close behind Davis was senior Riley Williamson and graduate student Nick Wilson. Williamson (26:31.10) finished ninth while Wilson (26:32.30) finished tenth overall.

"There's been times where Lafayette has beaten us at Patriots but this meet always means something special for us," Melko said. "I think we showed the first-years that and I can leave the program knowing I gave it my all and all of the other people in my grade gave it their all so having those wins is always special."

Lehigh will take a week off to prepare for the much-anticipated Paul Short Run on Friday, Sept. 30. The 47th annual event will take place on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course with the first meet of the day starting at 9:30 a.m.
