Young Hurls Second Straight Shutout as Lehigh Completes Sweep of Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Katelyn Young struck out eight, shutting out Bucknell for the second consecutive game as Lehigh completed a series sweep of the Bison with a 4-0 win Sunday at Becker Field.

The Mountain Hawks scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back as they improve to 22-14-1 overall and are now 11-1 in the Patriot League with two league weekends remaining.

Young scattered eight hits, but managed to keep Bucknell off the board for the second straight game. Her eight strikeouts were one off of her career high set a week ago against Rider. Young did not walk a batter in winning her seventh straight decision to improve to 13-5 on the season.

Senior Carley Barjaktarovich once again jump started Lehigh's day with a leadoff infield single and stolen base. Barjaktarovich then came around to score on a single through the right side by junior Emily Cimino. Two batters later senior Addie Kittel singled home Cimino to put Lehigh up 2-0 before Bucknell could come to bat.

Lehigh loaded the bases on three consecutive one-out singles in the third inning. Senior Karsen O'Rourke followed with the Mountain Hawks' fourth consecutive single, which plated two runs to put Lehigh in front 4-0.

The Mountain Hawks finished with 11 hits. Cimino, Kittel, senior Jaelynn Chesson and sophomore Brooke Cannon each had a pair to lead the way.

Bucknell (5-37, 1-13 PL) loaded the bases with one out in the second and put two on with one out in the third, but on both occasions Young navigated her way out of a jam to keep the Bison off the scoreboard.

The Mountain Hawks will play their next five games at Leadership Park, beginning Wednesday when they host Saint Joseph's in a single game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
