Lehigh To Open Spring Season At Gardner-Webb's Bright's Creek Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is heading to North Carolina for the Bright's Creek Invitational to start a spring season that features four tune-up events in preparation for the Patriot League Championship, April 15-17 at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a fall season where they finished in the top half in three of the four tournaments. Lehigh opened the fall with a runner-up finish at the Bucknell Invitational and finished fifth at the Quinnipiac Classic. Lehigh finished fourth in the one-round, weather-shortened Lehigh Invitational.
Fifth-year head coach Mary Kate Lynch will have nine player on the roster with three sets of first-years, sophomores and juniors.
Lehigh's roster for the Bright's Creek Invitational will include juniors Hannah Foster and Iris Shin, sophomores Sophie Holland and Sophia Taverna, and first-year Madison Pineda.
Pineda will look to continue a stellar rookie season where she has led the Mountain Hawks in three of the four fall tournaments and earned Patriot League honorable mention recognition three times. The San Carlos, Calif., native shot 149 (75-74) at the Navy Fall Invitational to tie for fifth and her best finish in the fall season. Pineda finished in the top-15 in all four tournaments during the fall season.
Holland's fall season featured three top-15 finishes with a low finish of tied for 11th at the Quinnipiac Classic at 235 (78-76-81). She led Lehigh with a 77.75 scoring average as a first-year last spring and posted the two lowest scores, 76 and 75, for Lehigh at the Patriot League Championship.
Foster tied for 19th and was the low-finisher for the Mountain Hawks at last season's Patriot League Championship on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. She finished in the top-25 in two tournaments last fall with her best finish of 15th at the Bucknell Invitational with scores of 70-78-84.
Shin finished 24th at last year's Patriot League Championship and 40th at the Quinnipiac Classic last fall with scores of 80-80-90. She shot 78, finishing ninth, at the Lehigh Invitational.
Taverna led the Mountain Hawks at the Lehigh Invitational with an opening score of 77 placing fourth. Competing as an individual, she carded a 151 (77-74) at the Navy Fall Invitational for 11th place.
The Mountain Hawks roster also includes junior Marina Mendez, sophomore Meghna Grover and first-years Sophie Chang and Mia Scarpati.
The Bright's Creek Invitational will be a 54-hole event at the Bright's Creek Club in Mill Spring, N.C. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. The eight team field includes Boston University, Catawba, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville State, Lehigh, Presbyterian, Quinnipiac and Winthrop.
In March, the Mountain Hawks will play in the SHU Spring Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla., over spring break and the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., on March 28-29. April will feature the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, April 2-3 in Grasonville, Md. The season will conclude with the Patriot League Championship on April 15-17 in Annapolis, Md. Lehigh is pursuing its first Patriot League title since 2013.
