CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Lehigh field hockey program will make its first NCAA Tournament when the Mountain Hawks take on Delaware at Karen Shelton Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Mountain Hawks are 13-7 overall after claiming the program's second Patriot League Championship and the first since 1994. Lehigh raised the trophy this past Saturday after taking down Boston University 2-1 in overtime. BU opened the scoring late in the third quarter to take a 1-0 advantage, but first-year Maddie Kandra found the equalizer four minutes into the fourth period. Sixty minutes wasn't enough as the Terriers and Mountain Hawks headed to overtime. Sophomore Guusje Hogendoorn blasted a shot into the back of the cage off a penalty corner to send the squad into jubilation.

Lehigh placed four student-athletes to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Kahn was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while fellow senior Sarah Bonthuis, junior Julia Gatelein and Hogendoorn were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Four Mountain Hawks landed on the All-Patriot League teams announced last Tuesday. Bonthuis and junior Julia Gatelein both were selected to first team all-league, while Kahn and first-year Kiki Mes were tabbed as second team all-league honorees.

Bonthuis leads Lehigh in points (33) with 11 goals and 11 assists, followed by junior Abbie Brown and Kandra, who both have seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Kahn enters the NCAA Tournament with a 1.85 goals-against average and a .764 save percentage in 20 starts.

The Blue Hens (9-11) are entering the match on a seven-game win streak and earned an automatic tournament bid after beating Drexel 6-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association finals. That win marks the fourth-straight championship and the program's 10th CAA title and the ninth in the last 10 years.

Fourteen different Delaware student-athletes have recorded a goal and six Blue Hens have recorded double-digit points, led by junior Julia Duffhuis who leads the squad with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points. Junior Berber Bakermans and senior Ashlyn Carr each have 20-plus points, with Bakermans with a team-high 14 assists with four goals for 22 points while Carr sits behind with 12 assists and four goals to contribute 20 points.

Lehigh and Delaware are facing off for the 23rd time on Wednesday afternoon, with the last meeting taking place in 1999 when the Blue Hens held the Mountain Hawks scoreless in a 5-0 shutout. Lehigh has dropped the last seven contests, with their last win coming in 1992 when the Mountain Hawks earned a 2-1 double-overtime victory.

Tickets are encouraged to be purchased in advance and can be done so by clicking here. Tickets also can be purchased at the venue, but all sales are cashless. The prices are $5 for adults 18 and older, and $3 for youth 17 and under.

If Lehigh wins the match, they will earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory and move on to take on the host, and No. 1 overall seed, Tar Heels on Friday at noon.
