LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lehigh men's cross country team showed no signs of nerves for the upcoming Patriot League Championships as the team tallied eight top ten performances between the 4k and 6k races at the Bucknell Tune Up on Friday evening.

Leading the way for Lehigh was senior Jake Martinez, who picked up a first-place finish for Lehigh in the 4k on Friday evening. Martinez finished with an overall time of 12:26.70.

"Today was an excellent opportunity to reinforce the confidence needed to be able to compete at the highest level next week at the Patriot League Championship on this course," said Martinez. "It was an amazing feeling to finally execute a strong race plan, and the rest of the team both on and off the course today proved that we are ready to roll."

"It was nice to see Jake pick up a convincing win in the 4k race," said head coach Todd Etters.  "Once he decided to go, no one could match him. The rest of our 4k guys did a nice job of packing up at the end of the race.

"In the 6k we also had a nice pack of three racing together," Etters continued. "Our young guys are still learning how to race at this level, but they worked really well as a group and that is exactly what strong cross-country teams do."

Seniors Thomas Leitner and Kerem Ayhan finished sixth and seventh overall in the 4k. Leitner, who finished second for Lehigh, ran a 12:48.60 while Ayhan ran a 12:50.40.

Brandtson Duffie (12:57.30) and Joseph Cranley (13:10.60) also found themselves in the top ten for the 4k. The seniors finished ninth and tenth respectively. Sophomore Ethan Hood was the final Mountain Hawk to compete in the 4k. Hood finished 11th with a time of 13:35.30.

Three Lehigh first-years competed in the 6k race on Friday evening. Thomas Arnold was a top-finisher for the Mountain Hawks, finishing eighth overall with a time of 20:22.50. Henry Burd (20:25.50) and Max Leffler (20:35.00) finished ninth and tenth respectively.

"It is an interesting course and seeing it today will really allow us to be better prepared for next week," said Etters. "Our goal is to be at our best when it counts the most, and we will use this week to make some final preparations for the championship.  It is an exciting time and I am really looking forward to seeing how good we can be."

Lehigh will take a week to recover and prepare for the championship meet, which will take place in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Mountain Hawks are set to compete at 11 a.m.
