Lehigh Drops Patriot League Road Match to Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Lehigh volleyball team suffered a loss in Patriot League action in straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-12) on Saturday evening. The Mountain Hawks fall to 11-10 on the season and 2-7 in Patriot League action while the Greyhounds improve to 7-9 overall and 5-4 in league play.
 
Loyola earned the first two points of the contest before Lehigh tied the contest at 2-2. Lehigh took its first and only lead at 6-5, before the Greyhounds put a run together. Loyola scored five straight points before both squads exchanged points. The Greyhounds pulled ahead and captured set one, 25-17, to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Greyhounds and Mountain Hawks each scored points to start set two, which was the closest Lehigh would get as Loyola continued to stretch their advantage. Both squads were within two points, 12-10, before the Greyhounds extended their advantage and put the Mountain Hawks down 2-0, heading to the third set.

Lehigh opened set three with a point before Loyola strung together four-consecutive points to put the score at 4-1. The Mountain Hawks would regain the lead to 8-6 and both squads would be tied at 10-10. The Greyhounds scored five straight points and did not look back, handing Lehigh the loss in the set and match.
 
Leading the Mountain Hawks in kills was first-year Natalie Luscomb, who finished the match with six. Luscomb added three digs and one block while sophomore Megan Schulte contributed five kills and eight digs. Junior Katarina Kaburov had the highest hitting percentage at .273 with four kills and added six digs.
 
Sophomore Makena Smith paced the Lehigh offense with 17 assists and contributed three blocks, two digs and a kill while sophomore Kyleigh Brown led the squad with 15 digs.

Lehigh will be back home to host Bucknell Saturday, Oct. 22 and Lafayette Sunday, Oct. 23 for The Rivalry Presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.
