Mountain Hawks return to action, hosting Bucknell on Senior Day Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Annually a top contender for a Patriot League title on both sides, Bucknell is set to visit Jacobs Pool on Saturday, as the Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving programs return to the pool for the first time in the new year as the home stretch of the season is set to begin. Lehigh takes on the Bison starting at 1 p.m. with diving set to begin at 11 a.m. The members of the senior class will be honored with a special pre-meet ceremony at 12:50 p.m. prior to the start of swimming competition.

On the men's side, the Mountain Hawks are 2-3 so far this season, falling their last time out at Drexel on Dec. 4. Senior Owen Thomas registered two of the team's four first place finishes in the defeat, as he was named an honorable mention from the Patriot League office.

Thomas claimed victory against the Dragons in both the 50-yard backstroke (23.99) and the 100-yard backstroke (52.13). Connor Goodyear picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle with his winning time of 1:45.50 while Addison Cochran got the victory on the diving board with a score of 282.30 in the one-meter dive.

The Mountain Hawk men are searching for their first victory since beating Lafayette on Nov. 19, 154-134.

Bucknell came out with the 192-89 win over the Mountain Hawks last season following three straight wins for Lehigh previously.

The Bison men are 6-3 overall this season and 5-2 in Patriot League meets so far. Bucknell fell to Army West Point, 206-92 last weekend after a 188-106 victory at Loyola Maryland on Friday led by two individual victories for Will Cadwallader, Chris Kopac, Leo Kuyl and John Gehrig.

On the women's side, the Mountain Hawks were previously unbeaten before falling to Drexel, 195-105 on Dec. 4.

Lehigh finished the meet with four first place finishes led by two for both Ann Foley and Sarah Hardy. Foley won in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.74 and also swam to a time of 51.59 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Hardy got wins in the 100-yard butterfly (56.82) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.94) with teammate Liz Olszewski swimming to a third-place finish.

Relay-wise, the Mountain Hawks had a big second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Foley, Noel Fresa, Grace Rogowski and Maddie Dorish swam to a time of 1:38.97.

The Bucknell women have been elite this season, going 8-1 overall with a 6-1 record in the Patriot League. The Bison have won three straight meets including a 183-117 final over Army on Saturday and a 230-70 win over Loyola on Friday.

During last season's meet, the Bison defeated the Mountain Hawks, 175-119. Bucknell leads the all-time series, 32-10 and have won 13 of the past 14 meetings. Lehigh is searching for its first win over Bucknell since Jan. 21, 2017 in Lewisburg, which snapped a then-nine meet losing streak.
