WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams had a plethora of student-athletes travel to West Point to compete in the Army Twilight Meet on Thursday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks just concluded the Patriot League Championships at the same place just three and a half days ago. The Brown and White had success inside Shea Stadium at Army last weekend so they decided to head back. Again, success found the Mountain Hawks.
Throughout the evening, Lehigh won two total events, as Chae Kim won the 110mH with a time of 15.00 on the dot, while Andrine Larsen earned her first-career collegiate win in the 5K with a time of 18:49.95. In the same 5K, first-year runner Grace Kolbe finished right behind Larsen in second with a time of 19:02.12.
Junior Teasha McKoy rattled off an impressive evening on Thursday with notable performances in the shot put and the discus. McKoy moved up another peg on the all-time leader list in school history in both events. The junior finished second in both the shot put (13.97m) and the discus (46.99m). McKoy is now second all-time in the shot put, while third all-time in the discus.
Connor Melko, coming of an insane silver medal in the 5K at the PLCs, continued his strong season by finishing second in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.13. Teammate distance runner Jacob Martinez took 10th overall at 4:01.55.
The men's team also had strong finishes in the field events throughout the day. In the discus, Quinn Conlan placed third overall with a mark at 45.30m, while Brittann Pierce returned to action and tallied a third-place finish in the high jump by clearing 1.93m on his second attempt. Pierce tried clearing the bar at 1.98 but was unsuccessful. The women's team also recorded quality performances in the field events. Avery Roze compiled a third-place finish in the long jumo at 5.24m (on her sixth attempt). Freshman Kerry Perna, coming off a bronze medal at the PLCs, finished fourth in the high jump at 1.61m.
Kerem Ayhan finished seventh in the 400m and set a PR with a time of 51.19, while then finishing ninth in the 200m at 23.45. Simone Davey registered a sixth-place finish in the 800m at 2:19.06. The Mountain Hawks also welcomed the return of Louis Logsdail in the pole vault (4.20m on his third attempt) who finished fifth. In the men's 800m run, Brandston Duffie (1:53.17) and Kyle Burke (1:54.27) finished seventh and 10th.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will compete in the IC4a/CAC Championships next weekend (May 14-16).
