BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following two consecutive victories on the schedule, the Lehigh volleyball team continues its Patriot League schedule with a home match against American on Friday at 7 p.m. and on the road at Holy Cross Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks (6-11, 2-4 PL) defeated Navy Saturday at home in five sets, the team's first over the Mids since 2017. Lehigh took a break from league play and knocked off Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-1 Tuesday night.
Against the Knights, it was Megan Schulte once again leading the team offensively with 17 kills, eight digs and three total blocks, while registering 13 kills against Navy on Saturday. Schulte's 188 kills leads her teammates and her mark of 3.03 kills per set is second behind Sabrina Lancaster (3.09).
From an attacking perspective, it's Hannah Wright leading the Mountain Hawks with an attack percentage of .251. Makena Smith's 491 assists this season ranks first and Emily Stewart has a team-best 62 blocks.
Lehigh is hitting .191 with 788 kills, averaging 11.8 per set this season.
AU has struggled this season, differentiating for its typical success in the Patriot League. The Eagles (8-9, 2-3 PL) are coming off a tough loss at Loyola Maryland on Tuesday in straight sets, after sweeping Bucknell on the road and falling 3-0 to Lafayette in Easton on Friday.
All five of American's Patriot League matches have been in three-set sweeps, three times coming out on the losing end.
In 63 sets played, Carlie Fikse is the Eagles' leading attacker with a mark of .346. Zeynep Uzen leads AU with 218 kills, Inbal Peleg has 342 assists, Chiara Bosetti with 224 digs and Allie Burke has 66 blocks to rank first.
American is hitting .177 this season and are averaging 11.3 kills per set.
The Eagles hold the all-time series advantage, 38-7 and have not met since the 2019 season where AU won twice. The Mountain Hawks have dropped 11 of the last 13 matchups to American and most recently won on the road on Nov. 6, 2018.
Holy Cross went from being one of the Patriot League's tournament teams in the spring to one of the teams towards the bottom of the 2021 standings, as they get ready to host Lehigh on Sunday after returning from Annapolis against Navy on Friday evening.
The Crusaders (1-16, 0-6 PL) are in the middle of a 13-match losing streak and haven't won a match since Sept. 1 vs. Merrimack.
Kathleen Colpoys was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in the spring and led the Crusaders to their first tournament berth in program history.
Unfortunately for Holy Cross, it lost a good portion of that squad from last year including First Team All-Patriot League selection Clare Honan. This year's edition of the roster includes six freshmen and one sophomore.
Gracyn Benck is one of the returning starters from a year ago and has a team-high 147 kills this season, followed closely by Abbie Lane (141) and Mia Hofacker (102). Halle Carter's 431 assists are a team-best, while Skye Daval-Santos has 246 digs and Lauren Halverson has 47 blocks.
Lehigh has had tremendous success over Holy Cross, leading the all-time series 44-15. The Crusaders swept the Mountain Hawks in the spring and have won three of the last five matches.
Both matches with AU and Holy Cross will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required).
