BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team takes a short break from the Patriot League schedule, hitting the road to face Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks (5-11, 2-4 PL) are coming off a signature five-set victory over Navy at home on Saturday afternoon, the team's first win over the Midshipmen since 2017.
Following Tuesday's match with the Knights, Lehigh begins a stretch run to the end of the regular season, looking to punch its ticket to the six-team Patriot League Tournament field for the first time since 2019.
The Mountain Hawks got out to 2-0 lead against Navy before dropping two straight to force a decisive fifth set. Lehigh prevailed, 15-11 to knock off the Mids at Grace Hall.
Freshman Megan Schulte led the way with 13 kills, Ally Thaw had 19 digs, Sophia Meagher finished with eight blocks and Sarah Burau registered the 34 assist, 17 double-double to lead the team.
There's not much that has been left unsaid about Schulte this season, who is the team's leader in kills this season with 171 while starting in all 16 matches. She's averaging 2.95 kills per set and ranks tied for third in digs (114) and is third in blocks (33).
Freshman Kyleigh Brown has split time with Thaw at libero this season and is the team's leader in digs with 192. Thaw is a close second at 149.
As Lehigh continues to be one of the top blocking teams in the Patriot League this season, freshman Emily Stewart's 60 is 20 more than Meagher (40) as the team leader.
Lehigh is 3-7 in non-league matches this season with early season victories over St. Francis Brooklyn, Binghamton and Penn. The Mountain Hawks are still winless on the road, 0-8 away from Grace Hall, while going 5-3 in matches at the friendly confines.
FDU is 5-12 this season and is the middle of a season's long six match losing streak dating back to Sept. 17 vs. Georgetown. The Knights are 0-4 to begin NEC play with four consecutive losses to LIU, St. Francis Brooklyn, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State. FDU has dropped six straight sets in the previous two matches since going five sets the SFB Terriers on Sept. 25.
Hitting just .165 this season and averaging 11.3 kills per set, the Knights are led by Miriam Stingl this campaign with 153 kills. Madisyn Beirne has 148 and Alix Christie is third with 110. Christie is hitting .263 so far this year in 16 starts. Hannah Schmidt leads the team with 362 assists, Allegra Rivas has 224 digs and Christie also leads with 44 blocks.
Lehigh holds a 13-12 advantage over FDU in the all-time series with the most recent meeting taking place in 2016, where the Mountain Hawks earned a 3-0 win at Grace Hall in the Crosstown Invitational. Lehigh has won four straight over the Knights dating back to the 2009 season.
Tuesday's meeting will be streamed live on NEC Front Row at 7 p.m. with live stats also provided.
