Mountain Hawks Shine at Leopard Invitational

EASTON, Pa. – Six members of the Lehigh women's cross country team competed in the Lafayette Leopard Invitational on Saturday, which featured plenty of impressive performances. Freshman Kimi Quayle paced the Mountain Hawks, finishing third overall with a time of 23:13.60.

"I was very excited for Kimi," said Lehigh head coach Debbie Utesch. "It was only her second collegiate cross country race, at the 6K distance, on a course she'd never been on. She came out and ran great right at the front of the field. She and Andrine both did a great job of going to the front of the field early and fought to the wire. She fell with about 800 meters to go, but still bounced right back up for third place – three seconds off the win. Tremendous effort for her."

Sophomore Andrine Larsen impressed as well, as she was the second Mountain Hawk to finish, coming in sixth overall (23:54.54).

"Andrine really battled the whole way," said Utesch. "She was battling in there with the Bucknell pack that finished right in front of her. She did a good job of just continuing to battle throughout the 6,000 meters."

Senior Natalie Condon was the next Lehigh runner to cross the line, placing 17th overall (24:53.09) while junior Allison Duane came in 20th (25:05.64). Sophomore Lindsay MacLellan placed 27th (25:40.05) while graduate student Giavanna Tabbachino finished 30th (26:34.83).

"Going to a race like this, it's a smaller race but gives women who competed there another chance to compete and a chance to be the scorers for Lehigh," said Utesch. "That is a very valuable experience because they were setting the tone. Giavanna was a good leader for us [at this meet].

"You've got to capitalize on every chance to be on the starting line, to go out and set the tone," said Utesch. "That's something these women recognize."

The Mountain Hawks will return to the course in two weekends, as Lehigh hosts the Patriot League Championships on Sunday, Oct. 31. The women's 6K will begin at 11 a.m. on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
